Highlanders suffer defeat despite scoring 5 great tries
Defensive lapses and inexperience proved costly as they conceded 8 tries.
Boschpick Highlanders’ first team went down 54-33 to Nelspruit after trailing 28-19 at half-time last Saturday (May 23).
Despite the defeat, Highlanders produced several exciting attacking passages and scored five well-worked tries to keep the large crowd entertained throughout the match.
Highlanders also enjoyed a slight advantage in the scrums, but defensive lapses and inexperience proved costly as they conceded eight tries.
“We cannot allow a team to counter-attack from inside their own 22 and score two tries from there. That was costly and the frustrating thing is that we are making the same mistakes week after week,” said head coach Andrè ‘Swanie’ Swanepoel.
“As the coach, I will have to find a way to improve the players’ decision-making and defence.”

Highlanders show attacking promise
In the backline, Gift (12) and Lwazi (9) delivered strong performances, while winger Sfundu (11) scored an excellent try.
However, the try of the match belonged to Lwazi.
Daniel (2) once again impressed with his line-out throws, achieving a 100% success rate, while Girafe (8) secured quality possession at the back of the line-out.
Siyabonga (4) and Dillan (7) also provided solid support, while Kheswa (6) and Max (7) were effective on attack and gained valuable metres for the side.
Nelspruit’s number seven and eight caused problems for Highlanders’ defence throughout the match, with number seven particularly influential. Nelspruit’s number 14 also highlighted the importance of accurate goal-kicking by converting all seven attempts.
Highlanders missed two penalties and one conversion, ultimately leaving eight points behind.
