Andile Ngcobo continued his impressive form on Saturday by claiming first place at the weekly Vryheid parkrun, further cementing his reputation as one of the event’s strongest competitors.

Izelda Meyer was the first woman across the finish line and also the leading junior, recording a personal best time of 25:14.

Visitors and personal bests add to the day

The event welcomed several first-time participants, as well as visitors from other parkruns around the country. Among them was parkrun tourist Jaco Benadé, who has completed more than 140 different parkruns nationwide. Having participated at more than 20 different venues, he has earned the right to wear the distinctive orange parkrun tourist cap.

Although fewer runners recorded personal bests this week, six participants still achieved new fastest times. Congratulations went to Izelda Meyer, Wayne, David, Annelize, Cornelia and Lois.

Milestone runs celebrated

Julias Chituku celebrated a significant milestone by completing his 100th parkrun, with every one of those events taking place in Vryheid.

Another milestone was reached by Nhlanhla Ncube, who returned to Vryheid to complete his 150th parkrun on home ground.

Comrades finishers inspire participants

Ncube and Amanda Vergottini were also welcomed back following their successful finishes at this year’s Comrades Marathon. Ncube completed the race in 8 hours and 3 minutes, while Vergottini crossed the finish line in 10 hours and 19 minutes.

The pair shared their Comrades experiences with fellow parkrunners, inspiring participants with their achievements. Organisers noted that this year’s Comrades Marathon covered a distance equivalent to completing 17 parkruns back-to-back, highlighting the scale of the challenge undertaken by the runners.
