The women stole the spotlight at Vryheid parkrun on Saturday, making up more than half of the field and producing some impressive performances on the course.

Strong performances on the course

Bongani Msimango was the first runner home, while first-time participant Minenhle Mathe enjoyed a memorable debut by finishing as the first woman across the line and third overall.

The event attracted a mix of first-time participants, regular runners, walkers and volunteers, with organisers praising the strong turnout by women.

Eleven new personal bests

Eleven participants celebrated new personal best times. Congratulations go to Charl, Kai, Liane, Fezeka, Sithembumusa, Sphelele, Nonhlanhla, Christoff, Elke, Andile and Tracy.

Milestones worth celebrating

Several milestones were also reached during the morning. Father and daughter Werner Meij and Lydia Macfarlane both completed their 25th parkrun, while Carl Boock also celebrated his 25th event.

Behind the scenes, two dedicated volunteers reached significant milestones of their own. Hannie de Jager completed her 100th volunteer stint, while Daan Kotzé marked an impressive 200 volunteer events.

Community spirit on display

Organisers thanked everyone who took part, whether running, walking or volunteering, for helping to make another successful Vryheid parkrun possible.
