Drakensview Primary School recaps cricket success

Drakensview's U/13 cricket team record their achievements

The U/13 cricket boys have had a fantastic season, winning all six of their games very convincingly.  Here are the results of the last four matches: February 26 – vs Mooi River Primary

Drakensview batted first and managed to score 127 runs. In their 20 overs, Mooi River Primary managed to score 56 runs before being bowled out in the 12th over.

Drakensview’s best batsman was Deolyn Naidoo who scored his first half century; 55 runs off 45 balls. Drakensview’s best bowler was Brydley Nqindi who took his first five-wicket -haul; five wickets in three overs for eight runs. Drakensview won by 71 runs.

February 28 – vs St Gregory Primary
Drakensview batted first and managed 80 runs off their 15 overs. St Gregory then made 45 off their 15 overs. Drakensview’s best batsman was Deolyn Naidoo who played an entertaining innings, making 27 runs off just 14 balls, hitting five fours in the process.

All the Drakensview bowlers played their part, taking four wickets in total. Stand out bowler was the debutant Ayabonga Cebukhulu who took one wicket for three runs in three overs.

March 6 – vs Treverton Prep at Treverton
The Drakensview boys were in for their toughest challenge yet, but were up for the task. Treverton batted first and scored a big total of 131 runs after their 20 overs. Drakensview needing 132 runs for victory got off to a shaky start, losing two quick wickets.

Deolyn Naidoo and Brydley Nqindi however showed great guts and determination. Deolyn, scoring 24 runs off 26 balls, assisted Brydley who scored 70 runs off just 35 balls to pull Drakensview to victory in just 14 overs.

A tremendous performance indeed. Brydley being man of the match also took two wickets in four overs for just 14 runs.

March 7 – vs Greytown Junior in Greytown
Greytown batted first and made 72 runs in their 20 overs. Drakensview’s best bowler, Sanele Shembe, took three wickets for just one run in two overs and was assisted by Nhlalenhle Hlongwane who took two wickets for 15 runs in four overs.

Drakensview chased down the score in the 13th over. Best batsman was Brydley Nqindi who scored 26 runs from 16 balls.

Drakensview’s U/13 team has achieved a perfect record of six wins in six matches. Well done to Mr Ramprith, their coach, and all the boys.
