Sarel in exciting clash at Kings Park

"What a great advert for school boy rugby"

It was billed as a curtain raiser but there is no doubt that the High Schools of Sarel Cilliers and Pionier put one over the dismal Sharks at Kings Park on Good Friday.
The Northern KZN rugby giants did battle on the famous turf before the Sharks took on the Reds and it was a match the crowd will remember long after the memory of the Sharks defeat to the Australian team has been forgotten.

Down 23-10 to the Vryheid team, Sarel rallied around their motto of ‘Never Surrender’ and managed to cut the deficit and draw ahead 24-23 with just a few minutes remaining.
But after out doing their opponents by four tries to three, the Blue Lions were denied victory thanks to a huge pressure penalty kick which Pionier converted to win 26-24.
Dave van der Westhuizen of Sarel Cilliers’ Rugby Management said he was very proud of his team.
“The whole game was a wonderful advert for school boy rugby and for Northern KZN sport in general. Our boys shone like stars,” he told the Courier.
