Are we giving uThukela a bum rap?

Frankly speaking, when the ANC wrestled control of the embattled district municipality from the IFP, it was in really poor shape

Let’s face it, uThukela are much like any other water authority, battling budgets and kilometres of old piping and outdated infrastructure.

Can we really blame them for under-performing?

Frankly speaking, when the ANC wrestled control of the embattled district municipality from the IFP, it was in really poor shape. Election promises were made to turn things around…

And to a certain extent, this has been accomplished. We have to give credit where credit is due.

But after an initial surge in effort to re-organise uThukela, we are back where we started. The only people who seem to think uThukela is doing a good job are the staff at the district municipality; everyone else is baying for their blood.

How long can they stumble from one disaster to another? As we approach an election year, one has to ask: Have the ANC done enough to keep uThukela?
