So it seems that Gauteng motorists are going to have to make a decision – pay the new tolls on their roads or face the possibility of some sort of penalty.
In our opinion the whole thing stinks. In our opinion it is just another way of extracting more money from Joe Public. Our fear is that once we become used to the whole idea, tolls will be implemented in other cities. Taken to an extreme, is it possible that one day there will be a toll booth on all the roads leading into Vryheid – the Melmoth road, the Babanango road, the Dundee road, the Paulpiet road, the Natal Spa road, the Hlobane road?
It’s just another way of taking money out of our pockets and putting it into someone else’s. Of each million rand collected, how much will actually go into road maintenance, and how much into the collection process and fat salaries for the parasites at the top?
It’s just another tax that again we will not see the full benefit of.
