Gangs of Ballet coming to Newcastle

The Winter Festival is around the corner and Gangs of Ballet will entertain the crowds at this year’s festivities.

Gangs of Ballet is a Durban-based band comprising of four musicians and friends, each an accomplished musician in own rights. The band’s members have combined their various individual tastes and styles to create a sound that is captivatingly fresh. Some of their greatest hits are Hello Sweet World and Breaking the Silence.

The band made its their official debut on the music scene by opening for aKing and has not looked back.

With the latest Gangs of Ballet album, yes/no/grey, the band committed to produce the best possible record it was capable of and allowed it to slightly venture toward a little darker song writing. This gave the band room to be more musically interesting. The album features one or two more aggressive tracks and, although the band describes it as more risky than their self-titled EP, the music still features the sing-along elements fans have grown to love.

Gangs of Ballet won the MK Award for Best Newcomer in 2013. The band may be relatively new to the music scene, but its members are far from it. With all members having been involved in bands, side projects and studio recordings in the past, the Gangs of Ballet boys are no strangers to the stage or recording studio. Three of the four members have pursued music at tertiary level and with their combined wealth of talent, experience and creativity; these four Durbanites aim to make a quality contribution to South Africa’s growing music scene and it would appear that they are already well on their way to doing just that.
