Audience left rolling in the Sans

Residents were treated to a barrel full of laughs when Durban-based comedian, Sans Moonsamy performed at Blackrock Casino on Saturday.

Sans moved easily between his acts and kept the audience guessing with a constant stream of hilarious sketches.

Not one to just keep the show focused on him, Sans ensured the audience felt truly a part of the show as he engaged them.

The entertainer was pleased with the show and response from Newcastle. “While it would have been better if the crowd were bigger, the audience was still lovely! They were smart, and got all my little clever jokes.”

While much of Sans act comprised of humour that relates to the Indian community and lifestyle, his representation thereof could be appreciated by all.

He tackles national issues, such as the elections and our country’s politicians with an ease that would make most comedians jealous.

Although his shows often centre around the near-taboo aspects of sex, race and religion, Sans is able to tackle these issues with tact, ensuring the audience knows the show was all just in good fun.

“I try to keep my shows clean, with a naughty edge,” explained Sans.

He explained that his love for comedy began at a very young age, and was only surpassed by his love for his family, and his love of performing on stage.

“Many people want to get into comedy or on stage for all the wrong reasons, not realising that it takes a lot of hard work and dedication to be good at this,” explained Sans.

As an example, he explained that his show in Newcastle took him nearly six months to perfect, while perfecting an accent can take even longer.

So, what awaits Sans Moonsamy in the future?

Well, he had to take a few days off from the set of, Land of milk and money, a locally produced movie, which is set to hit the big, screen some time next year.

“I play one of the lead characters who has a serious edge to him, but can be very funny at times, and I’m really enjoying myself at the moment,” said Sans.

Actor, comedian, family man and humble as can be, the all-round nice guy Sans, predicted he could possibly return to Newcastle in the future.

“I love smart crowds, and Newcastle, you definitely were a smart crowd.”
