10. The Crew – PG13

A full world racer, excited yet?

An open world racer. Need I say more?
Think about it this way. The United States is your raceway- almost all of it.

Escape cops, race and turn your car into a rocket with nitro boosts.
Escape cops, race and turn your car into a rocket with nitro boosts.

From Detroit to Miami, complete the ideal American roadtrip. Better still, join some friends online and race across the States. While the game may have some technical issues, it still ranks high with us for its sheer stab at being ambitious. Besides, you can always add massive amounts of NOS to your car and launch it off a ramp for fun.

9. Little Big Planet 3 – All

Aimed at kids, but we guarantee you will join them.
Aimed at kids, but we guarantee you will join them.

Who knew playing a game with a sack-like character could be so much fun? Aimed at a much younger market, the Little Big Planet really made a name for its franchise during the launch of the PlayStation 3. Naturally, the consoles have changed and so has the game, making this one undeniably fun. Trust us when we say, you may buy it for your six-year-old child, but you will probably join them in their Sackboy quests.

8. The Last Of Us: Remastered – 18+

If you have never played this game... Then you have never truly lived.
If you have never played this game… Then you have never truly lived.

Telling the exhilarating tale of Joel and Ellie as they travel across a post-apocalyptic America, this was rated Game of the Year by hundreds of websites globally and has since been remastered with extra playthroughs for next-gen consoles.

A face-lift and one of the best games ever made has been remastered for next-gen consoles. We want to buy it just to replay this amazing game.
A face-lift and one of the best games ever made has been remastered for next-gen consoles. We want to buy it just to replay this amazing game.

It is a story for the ages with some of the greatest characters, dialogues and scenes, both cinematic and during gameplay, ever made. By the time the end credits roll, you will be bawling tears of joy, or staring in utter shock; either way you will be left speechless.

7. Assasin’s Creed: Unity – Mature

Although critics lambasted it after its launch, Assasins Creed Unity, is still a game worth having.

A return to the free-roaming, parkour and free-form fighting genre, ACU places gamers in Paris around the time of the French Revolution. For its numerous glitches at the time of its launch, it was heavily criticised by the public.

Take yourself to Paris, in this emmersive game.
Take yourself to Paris, in this emmersive game.

However, we still think this game is brilliant. It delivers a massive unparalleled representation of France during the same time period, lets players brush up on their history, and delivers loads of fun. Besides, your fairer half always wanted to visit Paris; now is your chance to deliver.

6.Grand Theft Auto V – 18+

That sweet grass though.
That sweet grass though.

The controversial household name returns with this epic game. Massive worlds, fast cars, and lot of guns – what more could a gamer ask for? Note to parents, this is a somewhat violent game dealing with many adult themes. It has an age restriction of 18, but enjoyed so much popularity it was remastered for the next-gen consoles like the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Imagine the first person view of first stealing and then flying this jet?

The remastering includes some massive changes in graphics. Most importantly, it includes a first-person mode, because flying a jet into a mountain was not realistic enough.

5. Rayman Legends – All

The legend continues with this epic saga.

Arguably one of the best platformer games ever made, and possibly the best on the market at the moment. Rayman Legends combines fun platformer styled gameplay with the an epic four-player co-op mode and the fun comedic styled story-line and gameplay Rayman lovers have come to expect from the series. Need a break from the children? Then get them this game.

Sweet sweet nostalgia with modern fun.

4. Lego Marvel Super Heroes – All

A clash of your favorite Marvel characters in the fun lego style.
A clash of your favorite Marvel characters in the fun lego style.

Who doesn’t want to play as a Lego Spiderman swinging across block buildings? This game was released earlier this year and was heralded by many reviewers to be the best Lego game yet.

Because Lego hulk smash.
Because Lego hulk smash.

Making its debut on Next-gen consoles, it contains many of the famous Marvel Universe superheroes the world over has come to love. It’s fun, contains witty Marvel slapstick humour and brings to life the characters we love, albeit in the Lego block-form style. But who cares, because it sure will be fun to smack Ultron so that he explodes in a shower of Lego blocks… hopefully.

3. Call of Duty- Advanced Warfare – M

The latest COD game... Seems daring, but promises to be fun.
The latest COD game… Seems daring, but promises to be fun.

Possibly the biggest franchise in the FPS (first person shooter) genre, the latest stab at buyers wallets seems breathtaking. Although unplayed, it looks amazing and the graphics seem stunning.

COD has even brought back the epic Zombies mode, except this time with some really advanced undead.
Based in 2054, COD: AW places you way in the future, with a whole new arsenal of weapons to choose from. Stripping aside its usual Heads Up Display, the new game lists all relevant info through your weapon. Pretty cool hey?

Lazy guns... because it is the future.
Lazy guns… because it is the future.

It was slated by some reviewers as having a predictable story-line, but others enjoyed the break-away from norm in terms of its new guns, gameplay and critically acclaimed multiplayer. We really want to get our hands on this one to see how it pans out. You should too.

2.5. Sunset Overdrive – M

Because who doesn't want to create a tutu-wearing Thor like character to kill mindless mosnters.
Because who doesn’t want to create a tutu-wearing Thor like character to kill mindless mosnters.

We had to include this game somewhere in the list, because it was just that epic and ranked within the top three. If you want open-world, combined with crazy fun, epic humour, gorgeous art style and massive hordes of enemies, this is your game. Hours will disappear into days… You have been warned.

Utter insanity, mindless hours of fun and sweet slapstick comedy... Welcome to Sunset Overdrive.
Utter insanity, mindless hours of fun and sweet slapstick comedy… Welcome to Sunset Overdrive.

Picture post apocalyptic city, crazy zombie type monsters and the ability to jump really-really high while sliding across telephone poles and you have Sunset Overdrive.

2. Far Cry 4 – 18+

Definitely one of the best games of this year.
Definitely one of the best games of this year.

Coming of the back of the Far Cry 3 success, this game has big boots to fill.

Vaas Montenegro, the previous antagonist, was such an amazing villain that his famous insanity monologue still stays with gamers today, and he has been voted as one of the greatest characters ever-created in games. Which is why it will excite you to know the new antagonist, psychotic warlord Pagan Min, is just as astonishing.
This time around, you visit the Himalayan region of Kryat, (fictional, of course), but the game still plays tribute to real places as well as other mythical places, such as Shangri-La.

If you are an animal lover, maybe you should not play this… It involves a lot of killing animals to better equip yourself for the mass destruction ahead.

Bullets, knives, rockets and vehicular madness help you take on Farcry4.
Bullets, knives, rockets, vehicular madness and hunting animals will help you take on Farcry4.

Still, the game has seamless interchanges between take-downs, driving, fighting, sneaking, hang-gliding and flying your gyro-copter. This is a highly recommended game, because who doesn’t want to ride an elephant into a horde of baddies, while armed with just a crossbow using explosive bolts!

1. Dragon Age: Inquisition – 18+

With over 150 hours of gameplay promised, we say buy it and get lost in this unbelievably great game.
With over 150 hours of gameplay promised, we say buy it and get lost in this unbelievably great game.

The Role-Playing-Game (RPG) series that changed the face of RPG’s forever returns, and what a return it is! I don’t want to spoil the game for you, so I won’t delve into the 150-hour story-line. What I will tell you though is that this game is epic – combine RPG with massive decisions that change the entire face of the in-game world, plus characters from the previous instalments, and you have a masterpiece. Couple this with the huge maps and dungeons to conquer, and gamers will be hard pressed to find any faults.

Winner of Game of the year and RPG of the year, play it and you will understand why.

Amass the strength of your companions around you and right the wrongs you commit. Just remember, there are dragons about and they will literally wipe the floor with you if you challenge them unprepared. This game has been a real hit and even allows you to use your play-throughs from the previous games to influence the new story-line.
The inquisition is here; can you face it strong?

Bonus:

Here are a few games that really should be included in this list, but were excluded to ensure a large variety of games covering everyone’s needs:
Infamous Second Son
Final Fantasy XV
Halo: The Master Chief Collections
Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor
The Evil Within
