Finding love through friendship

I knew he completed me in every way, even in silly random ways I didn’t even know I needed

Kashmiri Neerahoo and Nasheer Maharaj were introduced to each other by family in Johannesburg.

This was an introduction where love was found that blossomed into eternal bliss.

Knowing they were meant for each other

Kashmiri knew Nasheer was her knight in shining armour the moment they felt comfortable around each other. “When I could completely be myself around him and he with me, I knew he completed me in every way, even in silly random ways I didn’t even know I needed,” she said.

Nasheer knew Kashmiri was meant for him by the way he felt. “I knew because my soul recognised its mate for life and for many more lives to come. She always makes me smile, and I know I will do anything to bring a smile to her face, because it makes me happy.”

Proposal

The couple had been together for just more than two years when Nasheer took Kashmiri to Cape Town for the weekend he asked for her hand in marriage.

Wedding Card

Guests received fruit and sweets in a container together with an invitation to all the functions leading up to the wedding.

Wedding

Kashmiri said the wedding took more than a year to plan, including the week-long pre-wedding events.

“Without the assistance of many family and friends this would not have been possible,” she siad.

The couple were married on 6 December 2014 at Farmers Hall in front of 1000 guests.

The colour scheme of the wedding was red gold and white.

On the day, Nasheer wore a red and gold traditional sherwani, while Kashmiri looked stunning in a red and gold outfit and veil.

Wedding rings

Nasheer received a white and yellow gold wedding band.

Kashmiri’s ring was designed by Nasheer and is made of white and yellow gold, featuring peacock feather cutwork with a diamond in the centre.

Food

Guests enjoyed sweetmeats in the foyer, vegetarian platters for starters and vegetarian biryani and soji.

Guest souvenirs

A metal gift basket with a magnet with the wedding logo, Indian mints and sweets and a chocolate.

Wedding cake

A three-tiered carrot cake with gold roses, topped with an Indian bride and groom.

Honeymoon

The couple dashed off to Bali, Indonesia, for their honeymoon.

Settling down

The couple made their home in Midrand, Gauteng.

Nasheer’s message to Kashmiri

“To my beautiful bride, you shed light in my life when it was gloomy and it has only got brighter since. I am so blessed to have you in my life. Thank you for being the awesome person you are. I can’t wait to share the rest of my life beside you. I am so proud to now be a son in a family and know you are to be a daughter in mine. I love you!”

Kashmiri’s message to Nasheer

“My handsome husband, thank you for being the wonderful person you are. I am so excited to start this amazing journey called marriage with you. I thank God for blessing me with a man like you and thank your parents for raising such a wonderful gentleman.”
