BUDGET: 10 ways to save on your wedding
Want to find out how to save on your wedding? You have to read this!

Everyone wants their wedding day to be beautiful, but if not cautious, your special day could turn into a costly affair.
Through following these easy tips, you could save yourself and future spouse some extra money.
1. Buy a dress that fits now
While some brides plan to lose weight before the big day, buying a smaller dress for motivation, this can prove to be disastrous. Rather buy a dress that fits now, as it will work out cheaper to alter it to a smaller size than to have it altered to a larger size.
2. Make up
Every bride wants to look her best on her wedding day and make up often forms a part of this. However, instead of hiring a professional, do the make up yourself. This will save you a few Rands.
3. Timing
Timing is everything. Avoid February, as Valentine’s Day pushes the cost of flowers, chocolates and diamonds up. Also try to book your venue for out of the holiday season, as it will also cost a few Rand less than it would during the holidays.
4. Limit the guest list
Your wedding day is a special day and you want to share it with all your friends and family, but this is not always feasible. Most caterers charge per person, so the difference between 100 guests and 200 will be significant. Try and invite your nearest and dearest, and don’t feel obligated to invite your third cousin on your dad’s side of the family that you haven’t seen in the past decade.
5. One stop ceremony and reception
Holding your wedding ceremony and reception in one venue is a sure way to cut costs, as you will not have to fork out money for hiring two venues.
6. Seating places
Have bigger tables set up at your reception venue. You can save money through purchasing fewer centrepieces and table cloths through this simple technique.
7. Invitations
While printed invitations add a personal touch, they can be a costly affair. Try embracing the digital age and send invites via email.
8. Spare the band and get a karaoke machine

While bands liven up wedding receptions, add a cheaper and somewhat more unique flare to your wedding. Rent a karaoke machine and get everyone involved in making sure the dance floor stays alive and well.
9. Choose a day other than a Saturday
It might sound odd, but choose a day other than Saturday to get married. While it may be the most convenient day, most venues charge extra for weddings on Saturdays. Aim for a Friday, Sunday or even a Wednesday to make your wedding stand out more.
10. Flowers
Flowers can be a costly affair, but there are more cost effective ways to flourish your wedding. Try and purchase flowers that are in season, as well as loose flowers and do the arrangements yourself. Not only will this work out cheaper but will add a more personal touch.
