ECR’s #WaterShare initiative flows into Vryheid
Emergency services, law enforcement, break down services, school children and private individuals all stepped in to assist with the drop off and the presence of the popular radio personalities from East Coast Radio's well known Breakfast Show only added to the enthusiasm.
The East Coast Radio Breakfast crew had Vryheid abuzz with excitement this morning when they visited the town to distribute water collected, together with Gift of the Givers, in their #WaterShare project.
The crew broadcast live from Oxford Lodge, before departing to assist with the distribution and offloading of 360 000 litres of drinking water at the Klipkerk, the local church which has, in recent times, become synonymous with storage and distribution of water to the drought-stricken community.
A wave of blue uniforms swept across the grounds at the Klipkerk as streams of Pioneer High School boys streamed in to assist with the offloading of the monumental donation of water.
“The prolonged drought is having a devastating impact on the lives of people in KZN. As East Coast Radio, we cannot sit back and do nothing to help. This is why project #WaterShare came about.” explained ECR’s General Manager, Boni Mchunu.
“It’s our way of providing a platform for the people across the province to get involved so we can make a meaningful difference. The response so far has been phenomenal but there’s so much still to be done,” she continued on the East Coast Radio website.
In times of crisis, unity in the community of Vryheid becomes prevalent and everyone steps in to lend a hand where they can.
Emergency services, law enforcement, break down services, school children and private individuals all stepped in to assist with the drop off and the presence of the popular radio personalities from East Coast Radio’s well known Breakfast Show only added to the enthusiasm.
As is often the case, members of Vryheid Neighbourhood watch were present to oversee the smooth running of the operation.
“It was a very exciting and emotional trip as East Coast Breakfast drove to Vryheid to distribute the water that had been collected by the #WaterShare project initiated by East Coast Radio with the help of Gift Of The Givers, and most importantly YOU.” – Published: Jan. 29, 2016, 6:55 a.m. by East Coast Breakfast
Sky Tshabalala, the “Eye Candy” of the breakfast team, according to the ECR website, and the sports presenter on the show, hails from Vryheid. It was only after a visit to his hometown that the reality of the water crisis sank in and the ECR crew, along with Gift of the Givers, initiated the #WaterShare campaign.
