One Stop Shop initiative aims to boost business in Umzinyathi area

A new One Stop Shop initiative aims to support entrepreneurs and stimulate economic growth in Umzinyathi.

A new One Stop Shop initiative launched in Dundee is expected to provide much-needed support for small businesses battling difficult economic conditions.

The project was officially launched through a partnership between Umzinyathi District Municipality and the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs.

The event, held at Dundee Battlefields Country Lodge, was attended by KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs Reverend Musa Zondi, Umzinyathi District Mayor Thembisile Mchunu, Endumeni Mayor Mcebo Mkhize, councillors and representatives from various development agencies.

Initiative aims to stimulate investment

Welcoming guests and community members, Mayor Mkhize said the initiative would help unlock economic opportunities across the district.

As part of the launch, the MEC and municipal officials unveiled a plaque at the Umzinyathi municipal chambers to formally mark the introduction of the One Stop Shop project in the district.

The initiative is aimed at supporting entrepreneurs and attracting investment in sectors including tourism, agriculture, mining, trade and exports.

Officials said Umzinyathi has now joined nine other districts in KwaZulu-Natal that already have development agencies linked to the programme.

The district agency, established in April last year, is expected to offer workshops, training opportunities and support programmes aimed at helping small businesses grow and become sustainable.

President of the Endumeni Chamber of Business Alan Schoken welcomed the initiative and pledged the chamber’s support.

He said collaboration between the government and the private sector would be key to creating opportunities and strengthening the local economy.
