Rotary celebrates it’s birthday in pink

Majuba Rotary club celebrated its 111th birthday at the Newcastle Club on Tuesday, February 23.

The birthday celebration was not only a fun night out but it was also an opportunity to help CANSA . Members were having their hair sprayed different colours and to show their support to everyone who was fighting cancer.

Club president, Johan Wagner said members were excited about the event with CANSA and were dedicated to this project.

“We wanted to celebrate our birthday as it is a remarkable milestone, but we decided to make it count and so one of our members suggested we do something for CANSA,” he explained.

Club mentor and eldest member, Gordon Dowsett has been with the club for 41 years. He said the Rotary was started 111 ago by Paul Harris and four of his friends, and has spread to about 176 countries around the world, consisting of 1,3-million members.

CANSA Community Mobiliser, Sherika Lalie said they were truly grateful for the continued support they receive from Rotarians in Newcastle.

” As a community we need to stand together in the fight against cancer, and people like the Newcastle Rotary Club make it possible for us to continue striving and be able to help others in their battle against the disease,” she concluded.
