Recently Lavender Blue, Simply You Boutique and Seven5 Photography held a Dream Team makeover competition.
Susan Labuschagne from Seven5 Photography, said many amazing women were entered, and it made their task more difficult choosing a winner.
“We narrowed down the list to a handful, and phoned each of them to find out more about themselves before making the final decision.”
Yolandi van Zyl was soon voted the perfect candidate for the makeover, with a background story which deeply inspired the team. Mrs Labuschagne said Mrs van Zyl was chosen for several reasons.
Her father, Johan Sweeney, nominated her, and the team found this to be quite touching. She said Mrs van Zyl worked full-time in an environment where she was required to wear safety boots and jeans every day, with the result that she did not always feel feminine.
“We knew she could do with a day off, which was all about her.”
Mrs van Zyl is a humble mother of two, and a compassionate person. When she heard she won the makeover, she was absolutely shocked.
“I had been through so much this past year, so it was definitely a wonderful surprise.”
She said she had never won a competition before, and it added to the excitement of the whole experiment. She regarded the entire process as a grand adventure, and the manicure and pedicure made her feel like royalty.
“I am extremely happy with the makeover. I look and feel like a new person,” she enthused.
Mrs van Zyl thanked her dad for nominating her, as well as the Dream Team for transforming her into the confident woman she felt like after the makeover.
Mrs Labuschagne said the transformation from the shy person who arrived at the salon on day one, to the confident woman she became, was mind blowing.
“The inner beauty Yolandi has, is now accentuated in her new look. We were all very humbled by the transformation process, and we look forward to do many more makeovers for the women of Newcastle,” she concluded.
