What made news 10 years ago?

Just like South Africa today, racism was making headlines ten years ago.

The then Mayor, Thandeka Nukani made front page news when she denied that a statement she made about a flight to Cape Town, was racist.
The Mayor allegedly said that the economy flight was like a ‘Mondlo Bus’ and that she found hersef surrounded by ‘poor whites’.
The municipality came out in support of the Mayor and said that matter was blown out of proportion.

In other news:

Talana Museum was the place to be as they celebrated International Museums’ Day.

Members of the tennis club were stunned to find that the club was vandalised.

Motorists were living in fear following two more hijackings. Three cars were also stolen, with police recovering tow of them.

Dundee resident’s were left terrified when they opened their taps and rat tailed maggots popped out.

The disgusting creatures made appearances in Cape Town, Durban, Gauteng and Newcastle, before making their way to Dundee.

Police were also cracking down on crime in May. A joint operation was hosted in an attempt to clean up the image of the town.
Police members started their raids at the taxi rank before moving to other houses in Smith Street, Old Acre Street and Ann Street, looking for drugs, skokiaan and alcohol abuse.
