Looking at his accomplishments, it’s no wonder KayAiDee is now considered to be the most sought after recording artist in town.

“I use to call myself ‘Chaotic K.I.D’, then it was K.I.D, but I didn’t want people to pronounce it as ‘KID’ so I thought of an alternate, which is KayAiDee,” said Bantubonke.

Speaking about his musical talents, Bantubonke explained his skills were not limited to recording vocals, as he also played musical instruments such as the piano and drums.

Although he is the most featured artist in Newcastle, and a former student of the Academy of Sound Engineering, Bantubonke doesn’t consider himself a music producer yet.

“I’ve worked on a mixtape with my previous crew RackxCity and I have my own mixtape featuring a lot of Newcastle’s heavyweights, called ‘MixedTapes’. It was released in December 2015. I am currently working on my new mixtape, which might be titled ‘TheGriNNd’ set to be released soon, it should be 2016,” he added.

“I’m good with hooks and bridges. Even well-known music producer, Mrale Fin, calls me the Hook Master, so whenever Mrale Fin produced a beat, I’d offer to do the hook right away. Hit made!”

Bantubonke has performed at many major events in Northern KwaZulu-Natal, including the Dundee Hip Hop Festival where the likes of Kwesta, Cassper Nyovest and many more performed, The Vodacom Newcastle Winter Festival, and a few local nightclubs that showcased the likes of Hip Hop artists Zakwe, Duncan, DJ Bongs and other popular music heavy weights.

The budding muso advised fellow up and coming local musicians to keep at it and not lose hope if things were not happening as quickly as they would like.

“If you know you’re doing it right, don’t stop!”

Hip hop music lovers can catch up with KayAiDee at the monthly instalment of Pop Mabhodlela, which will be held at Khaya Lounge in December.
