Norwegians hide their broomsticks away on Christmas Eve, as it was once believed that witches and mischievous spirits came out on the day looking for new brooms to ride. While dating back centuries ago, the tradition continues.

In Russia, Christmas Day is celebrated on January 7 instead of December 25. This is because the Orthodox Church uses the old Julian calendar for religious days. Prayers are usually said on the day and people fast until January 6. A 12 course meal is then enjoyed on Christmas Eve.
5. Czech Republic

Single women perform a somewhat unusual ritual on Christmas Eve. They put their backs towards their house’s door and throw a shoe over their shoulder. If the shoe points towards the door, they are sure to get married in the following year, however, if the shoe’s heel points to the door, they are destined to stay single for another year.
