#WackyWednesday: The strangest schools in the world
If you would like to do your school career all over again, but with slightly different subjects, the following five schools may just capture your attention.
NEWCASTLE – School plays an important role in our educational and social interaction development, but there are times when learners wish their class work was a bit more different from regular classes.
Here are five of the strangest schools in the world.
1. Elf School, Iceland
The name is pretty much self explanatory.
This school is dedicated to teaching its students about elves, offering a full curriculum covering elves, textbooks and a five-hour elf habitat tour for the extra curious.
2. Clown College, Florida and Wisconsin
Clown College was founded by the owner of Ringling Bros. and Barnus and Bailey circus, Irvin Feld. Classes officially started in 1968, and 1 400 clowns have since been trained to do everything from make-up, costume design, acrobatics and juggling, to stilt walking and pantomime.
The college, however, closed in 1997.
There must have been some funny business going on…
3. Wizard School, California
This unusual school is ideal for all Harry Potter fans. It was created by Oberon Zell-Ravenheart, and the Grey School of Wizardry is the first wizard school officially recognised as an academic establishment.
It has 16 departments, which cover magical subjects such as Alchemy, Beast Mastery, Wand-Making and Defense Against the Dark Arts.
Students are also split into four houses (Gnomes, Winds, Undines and Salamanders), adding to many Potter fans obsession with the magical world created by J.K. Rowling.
4. Rome’s Gladiator School, Italy
Sergio Iacomoni, or “Nero” as he is known during class, operates a private and historically accurate gladiator school in Rome. The school offers lectures and classes for would-be warriors of all ages to engage in fake life-or-death combat.
Students also get the opportunity to learn how to accurately wield shields and swords.
5. Charles W. Howard Santa Claus School, Michigan
The Charles W. Howard Santa Claus School was established in 1937 and is the oldest Santa school in the world. The school is dedicated to upholding the traditions, image, and history of Santa Claus.
The school offers classes such proper dress and makeup, live reindeer habits, and Santa sign language, and is located in a wooded area of Midland, Michigan.
The gingerbread house exterior and Christmas workshop interior sets the right tone for the intensive three-day course that occurs near the end of October, just in time for the Christmas season!
