We compared the price of milk over 13 years. The results are shocking!

Milk is one of the basic necessities that can be found in most homes.

With the cost of living on the increase everyday, Newcastillians are barely keeping their heads afloat. Some even calling milk a luxury item.

We take a look at the price of milk over a period of thirty years and compared the increases.

The good old days: Remember back in 2004 when a two litre of milk was just R7.99.

The price of milk in the year 2004, was R 7.99 for two litres.

The drastic change came four years later. In 2008 the price of milk rose to R 13.78 for two litres.

2008 saw the price go up to R6.89 per litre which equals R13.78 for two.

In 2011 the price was relatively the same although still too high.

2014 asked much from consumers as they dug deep in their pockets to fork out R 16.90 for two litres of milk.

2014 saw the price shoot up, R 3.00 more for two litres of milk.

2017: The price of milk today has gone up to a staggering R19.90 for two litres, and that is on special according to some shoppers. Consumers are expected to pay up to R 28.90 just for milk.

Almost R20 for two litres of milk in 2017.
