“YOU can please some of the people all of the time, you can please all of the people some of the time, but you can’t please all of the people all of the time…”
This phrase seems befitting of the current reaction of the community to the recent introduction of stop signs at the intersection of Heeren and East Streets, making this busy junction a four-way stop for motorists utilising this route on their travels.
Mixed reactions among readers on the Vryheid Herald Facebook page show that, while some welcome the change, there are some who are frustrated by the sudden change to the motoring landscape along this busy route.
Gert Schoeman, whose corner property, at the intersection in question, has been the landing pad for many a motor vehicle accident over the last few years, is elated that these changes have been made after so many years and so many pleas to the municipality to do something about the traffic problems at the intersection.
His concern is now that people don't seem to be stopping at the stop street and it appears that this is not being policed as it should.
The concerns of those who are unhappy about the new state of the intersection appear to be that motorists are unaccustomed to having to stop here when travelling along East Street and this could cause an accident.
