Dundee’s Lost Tales – The Haunted Bridge

Among the many tales and legends Dundee has to offer, a few of them are bound to be about ghosts

Among the many tales and legends Dundee has to offer, a few of them are bound to be about ghosts.

Several battlefields and cemeteries scar the town and surrounds. It is not uncommon to hear of ghostly apparitions of wounded and even headless soldiers.
However, this story has nothing to do with any of the battles.

It took place in the mid-seventies and involved a family from Glencoe. The car had four passengers: a man, his wife, his mother and his son. Halfway to Dundee, near the Saville Bridge, around 7pm, a woman appeared in the middle of the road. The man tried to avoid her and swerved of the road.

Police found the man and his son dead in the wreckage. His wife and mother, however, were allegedly found sitting quietly next to the car. They were unscathed.

NO TRACEĀ

There was no trace of the woman on the road. Ever since, there have been numerous accidents, all near that bridge. Most of the people involved, claimed to have ‘swerved to avoid a woman on the road’. In some instances, drivers claim they saw ‘a woman in the rear-view mirrors’, despite there being no other passengers.

Some say the woman haunts the road, exacting her revenge on unsuspecting men. Some say she wants others to suffer the same fate.

Whatever it is, be sure to be extra careful the next time you drive by, especially if you are a man.
