A farm lady who enjoys craft work and knitting

Engela and her husband are very artistic and love to experiment by trying out different images when tackling their next mosaic project.

53-year-old Engela Ulrich is incredibly gifted when it comes to making mosaic crafts, which she makes on wood and trays. Not only that, but she can also make beautiful loom knitting clothing. Born in the then Transvaal and having lived in Ladysmith for years, she and her loving husband Johan started out on their “craft journey” about five years ago.

It all started when they decided to do a mosaic of a bird. Working together, the mosaic bird turned out beautifully.

From there, they made a variety of other items and went to flea markets to sell their finished products.

The couple live on a small holding just outside Ladysmith, where they have a variety of livestock, they love animals. As far as, how long it takes to complete a mosaic, Engela says it all depends on how big the job is, some taking hours while others take days.
