The Holiday Zone

Newcastle Baptist Church proudly hosts the The Holiday Zone which will take place during the month of July.

There will be lots of fun activities to keep children between the ages of seven and 10-years-old.

The programmes will commence as follows:

Craft Day – R100:

Dundee Homecoming – Come home to Dundee

September 23 to 24 – Join in the commemoration of Dundee heritage.

Saturday, September 23: – 2.30pm – Opening of new permanent exhibit at the Talana Museum, “Historic Dundee” and afternoon High tea, showcasing 135 years of the history of Dundee, Glencoe and Sibongile.- 6pm – Musical soireë in Dutch Reformed Church and a Dundee dinner in the church hall. Sunday, September 24 – 10am to 1pm – Walk or travel by carriage through the historic heart of Dundee. Meet characters from the past who will bring our history to life. Nofta ballroom and line dance classes

New Age of Newcastle (NAON)

All NAON members are invited to attend a workshop every Thursday from 10am to 3pm.

Free sewing classes will be offered.

A hot lunch will be served to all NAON members. Advice on legal and health matters will be given.

Ramakrishna Sub-Centre – free Maths Tuition

Free Maths Tuition for Grade 8 learners will be offered on Saturdays from 9.00 am to 10.00 am. Own transport to be provided for tuition.

The first 20 students to register will be accepted. Registration will take place on Thursdays from 3pm to 4pm at the Ramakrishna Ashram – Green Street.

Ramakrishna Sub-Centre – Swami Nischalananda Jayanthi

July 23 – The centre will observe Swami Nischalananda Jayanthi at the Green Street Ashram at 9.30am. Programme includes a talk, bhajans and kirtans. Contact Raisha Singh on 083 232 7948.

Paradise Hindu Temple – Annual Marriamen Prayer

July 23 – The Annual Marriamen Prayer will be conducted at the Temple at 9.30 am.

Devotees who wish to carry the Ghargham can contact D.M Naidoo on 034 312 8662.

Ramakrishna Sub-Centre – Varalakshmi Varatham

August 4 – The centre will observe Varalakshmi Varatham [Lakshmi Puja] at 6.30 pm at the Green Street Ashram.

Newcastle Siva Subramanian Temple – Mariammen Prayer

The Newcastle Siva Subramanian Temple will be observing the Mariammen Prayer.

July 28 – The flag hoisting ceremony will commence at 3pm.

July 30 – The main prayer will be conducted at 9am.

17th Annual Maha Yagna Pooja

August 13 – The Shree Sanathan Dharma Purohit Mandal will host its 17th Annual Maha Yagna Pooja for rain, grain, peace, prosperity and unity. The pooja will begin at 8am at the corner of Dixon and St Thomas Street, Lennoxton. A peace walk will precede the pooja, starting at 7am. All youth are encouraged to join the peace walk. Special blessings and prayers will be done for learners, including a Saraswathi Pooja, which will be carried out by the priest. The pundits will recite 1008 mantras on the day. Parsadh and lunch will be served. Any form of donation should be handed to Pundit Ram, Pundit Suresh, Pundit Panday, Pundit Mohan Maharaj, Pundit Mugan Maharaj or Pundit Roshan Maharaj.

Ramakrishna Hinduism for Children’s Programme

The Ramakrishna Newcastle Sub-Centre conducts the Hinduism for Children’s Educational Programme on Thursdays, from 3.30pm to 4.30pm at the centre.

The programme encompasses pre-school to matric classes, whereby the different aspects of Hinduism, including the Ramayana and the Bhagavad Gita are discussed.

Transport is provided for the children and a light snack is served to all present. We encourage all parents to send their children to these educational classes and to ensure that their children attend regularly.

Hindi Pracharni Sabha (HPS)

Members of the community are invited to satsang on Tuesdays from 6pm to 7pm. Ramayan recital classes are held every Sunday from 9am to 10.30am.

Hindi Classes at Hindi Pracharni Sabha

Evening classes for children and adults, who want to learn the Hindi language, has commenced for all grades at the HPS. Hindi Bol students learn oral communication only. Other students are registered and taught by qualified and experienced educators for their relevant grades. These students write the annual National Examination with the Hindi Shiksha Sangh.

Ramakrishna Newcastle Sub-Centre – Joint celebrations

July 30 -This year marks the 75th anniversary of the Ramakrishna Centre of South Africa and the 150th birth anniversary of Sister Nivedita. To commemorate this significant milestone the sub-centre will install a statue of Swami Vivekananda.

There will be five Swamijees in attendance. His Holiness, Srimat Swami Bodhasaranandaji Maharaj the Assistant General Secretary, Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission, Belur Math will unveil the Statue of Swami Vivekananda.

The unveiling of the statue will commence from 8.30am to 9.15am at the sub-centre, (C/O Green and Centre streets), thereafter a formal function will be held at the Nofta Hall from 9.45am to 1pm.

Wakkerstroom Annual Charity Golf Day

September 2 – Wakkerstroom’s DeKotzenhof, will be hosting its annual charity golf day.This year’s chosen charity is Reach for a Dream. The event will take place at Wakkerstroom, Volksrust golf course. Tee off times begin from 8.30am to 10am on the day.

Format: Individual Stapleford limited to 60 players (15 x 4 balls).

Cost: R4 000 – Four ball.

This will include green fees, a light breakfast, a halfway house meal, prize giving dinner and accommodation in Wakkerstroom on Saturday night

A cash bar will be available at the halfway house and prize giving dinner.

There are a limited number of golf carts for hire @ R160.

The aim of this golf day is to encourage new golfers from out of town to Wakkerstroom for the weekend.

Reach for a Dream, grants magical dreams to children and young adults fighting life-threatening illnesses. Projects include Queen for a day and Captain Courage to lift the spirits of young girls and boys. Jabulani, is a team of magicians and comedians who visit children that cannot leave the hospital. Send a bear, takes a bear to hospitalised children and Camp Sunshine, allow ill children to enjoy a holiday just like any other child.
