First ever Talana Gun Run produces fun and falls

The Traffic Guys, RTI, battled in the heat and with one of their members taking a fall and injuring a leg, that required medical treatment, they bravely had another go but could not beat the lean, mean Nquthu SAPS team.

The first ever Talana Gun Run was held today, Sunday, at Talana Museum as part of the Talana Live festival.

Two teams of 22 members each, pulling up a 1300kg naval gun up a steep, rocky incline.  The Nquthu SAPS team went first and produced a stunning run – one group of their team charging down with the rope, that was shackled to the gun, to help give the gun momentum on the way up, with the rest of the team pushing it up, amid much sweat and shouting.

Racing against the clock, the team that pushed the gun up the hill and fired it towards Talana Hill was declared the winner.  The Traffic Guys, RTI, battled and with one of their members taking a fall and injuring a leg, that required medical treatment, they bravely had another go but could not beat the lean, mean Nquthu SAPS team.

Mayor Richard Mbatha and a group of enthusiastic spectators were on hand to cheer on the winners:  the Nquthu SAPS.  But be on the lookout:  the RTI want to come back next year.

Mayor Mbatha cheers them on
