#TipsTuesday: Cheap and natural home remedies to combat dry winter skin

We take a look at five natural home remedies, guaranteed to leave your skin feeling fresh, moisturized and silky-soft throughout the winter season.

Winter will soon be upon us, and we all know what that means for our skin.

Dry and flaky skin is something many experience during those ice-cold winter days. It leaves us feeling itchy, irritated and just plain miserable.

Here are five natural home remedies, guaranteed to leave your skin feeling moisturised and silky-soft:

1. Olive oil and brown sugar paste:

Mix two tablespoons of olive oil, four tablespoons of brown sugar and one tablespoon of honey.

Apply the paste in circular motion to your skin and leave for about 10 minutes before rinsing it off in a shower.

Apply a light moisturiser afterwards.

2. Lemon milk cream:

Mix together four tablespoons flour, five drops of lemon juice and enough milk cream to form a paste.

Apply this to your face, arms and legs and leave for about 15 minutes.

Rinse it off with warm water, and apply normal moisturiser.

Repeat this once daily.

3. Plain yoghurt and papaya mix:

Mix together half a cup of plain yoghurt, three tablespoons mashed/blended papaya and a few drops of honey and lemon juice.

Apply mixture to the skin and leave it for 10 minutes before rinsing it off with cold water.

Repeat this once a week.

4. Honey soft:

Apply raw honey all over your skin and leave it for about 10 minutes before rinsing it off in the shower.

Repeat daily or every second day.

5. Coconut oil:

Apply warm coconut oil to your skin in the evening before going to sleep.

Wash it off in the morning with warm water.

Repeat this daily.
