FRIDAY night saw Vryheid Ski Boat Club play host to popular South African songstress, Lianie May, the queen of Country and Afrikaans Pop music.
With several successful albums to her name and a SAMA nomination for ‘Beste Pop Album’ in 2018 for her latest musical offering, ‘Iemand om Lief te hê’, released in 2017, the acclaimed, golden-haired songbird was certainly well-received by a plethora of dedicated fans.
With well-known hits like ‘Naweeklyfie’ and ‘Jy Soen my nie Meer nie’ to get the audience on their feet, Lianie May’s unique voice and crowd-pleasing style offered more than just a magnificent music experience for Afrikaans fans.
English fans were also in for a treat as the dazzling Ms May belted out a few of the English songs from her latest album, showcasing her versatility in the industry, including a cover of the 1960’s hit by The Drifters, ‘Save the Last Dance for Me’, which features on her album.
Her appreciation for her fans was evident by the ease with which she mingled with the massive crowd that filled Vryheid Ski Boat Club, eager to meet with the star. Walking through the packed hall at the club, interacting with her adoring fans, Lianie May has no trouble showing why she is so well loved by fans of the genre.
