Roughly 300 cars will be on display this year, including a 1909 Renault.

STEP back in time with the Vryheid Vintage Car Club on June 9.

The Vintage Car Show, which is hosted annually at the Lucas Meyer sports field, is believed to be the second biggest car show in KwaZulu-Natal and attracts more classic ‘Big Lights’ than any other car show in South Africa.

According to organiser, Harry Heyns, roughly 300 cars will be on display this year, including a 1909 Renault.
At the show, Mr Heyns will be presenting a history of the classic cars and an brief explanation of the vehicles’ unique features.

Numerous editions of Henry Ford’s ‘Tin Lizzie’ will be exhibited once again, giving guests an opportunity to view revolutionary advancements in automotive history that would, as Ford put it, “democratise the automobile.”

Among them will be a 1916 Model T Ford, owned by Ty Terblanche from Pietermaritzburg, a 1913 Model T Ford owned by Paul Mouton in Piet Retief, a 1912 Model T Ford owned by Arthur Duvenage and a 1915 Model T Ford owned by chairman of the Vryheid Vintage Car Club, Kobus Botha.

Vintage tractors and old stationary engines will also be on display, as well as a large collection of Model A Fords.
Compare the old ‘Big Lights’ with the latest convertibles, coupes, hardtops, hatchbacks, sedans, roadsters, SUV’s, trucks, vans and tractors at stalls hosted by Vryheid’s car dealers. Mascor will be present with the latest in harvesting machines.

The event provides great family fun with live entertainment and a vast array of food stalls to satisfy every palate.
As usual, all proceeds will benefit two worthy charity organisations, Vryheid Hospice and the Vryheid Old Age Home.
Gates open at 7am on June 9 and close at 3pm. Tickets can be purchased at the gate at a cost of R35 for adults and R20 for children.
