With a medley of French and Spanish piano compositions, peppered with emotive poetry in English and Afrikaans, the artist garnered plenty of applause and praise at the end of each piece.

While the August wind howled outside, more than 20 people got cosy in the Vercuil’s lounge and listened as the performer from Ligetton, in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands entranced her audience with sharp, short and flowing melodic pieces.

Ms Kirsten entitled the night’s performance ‘The Resonating Pulse’ and said that she specifically chose pieces that resonate with her the most.

This took the audience on a journey to France, Spain and South Africa as music and poems spilled forth. At the outset, Ms Kirsten indicated that the recital would be ‘light-hearted’ and as she took to the Vercuil’s Kawai grand piano, which she later described as an ‘incredible instrument’, she lit up the atmosphere with romanticism and drama.

The evening ended with a piano improvisation from Ms Kirsten, which was loudly applauded by the appreciative audience.

But that was not all that the intimate audience at the Vercuil’s home got to enjoy, 15-year-old Lida van Aswegen, entertained with a curtain raiser and at the end of the evening, everyone socialised over delicious treats and friendly conversation, as a light rain fell outside.
