This past Friday youngsters converged at the park in Victoria Street to vibe at the Cypher Zone Session.
Local talent went head-to-head in a friendly competition at this jam session.

‘Cypher’ means secret writing or coded messages and these sessions have come about to give youth exposure and create a platform for poets, rappers, dancers, hip hop artists or vocalists.

So with this aim, the sessions are held every Friday at the park in Victoria Street from 12pm to 2pm.
Youngsters filed in to the watch live rap battles by amateur rappers and some upcoming artists.

The audience hung on every word, punch line, narrative and image painted by the rappers.
The rappers head out each week with a portable speaker, microphone and beats – then the magic happens as each artist bounces ideas off one another.

The spoken words were influenced by things such as poverty, unemployment, hobbies and other social-economic factors affecting youth.
