Editor's note

A happy return and a bittersweet farewell

Thank you, Newcastle, for giving these little ones a voice. Your support, likes and shares on social media and quiet acts of kindness has proven yet again, the power of unity in community.

Dear Reader,

It was no doubt a traumatic and stressful week for the children of Morester in Newcastle and Ladysmith, as well as the little ones of Home Meah.

Plucked out of warm beds, with no clue as to where they were going, the story of this grave injustice touched the hearts of people across the country.

It was no surprise, then, that the High Court ordered all children to be returned to their respective places of safety.

Staff waited in anticipation for their children to be brought home. The many prayers and voices calling for their safe return have thankfully resulted in just that: the children are safe and sound.

Thank you, Newcastle, for giving these little ones a voice. Your support, likes and shares on social media and quiet acts of kindness has proven yet again, the power of unity in community.

In partnership with the Majuba Rotary Club, the Newcastle Advertiser has committed to continue supporting Morester Newcastle and Home Meah by collecting donations for the children, many of whom lost clothes and more during their terrifying ordeal.

If you would like to donate food or clothes, you can drop them at our offices on 70 Paterson Street, directly at Home Meah, or call us on 034 312 6021 to arrange for collection.

This week also marks the end of an era for Caxton Northern KZN, with the retirement of Regional Branch Manager, George Meyer.

George was instrumental in my appointment as Editor back in 2013, and since then has become more than the tenacious leader he is known to be among our branches.

His quiet confidence and trust in my abilities allowed me the space to be creative and lead the editorial team with courage and dignity.

I wish him many years of peace, joy and phenomenal golfing. We are really going to miss you George!

I also want to welcome Tanya Muller as the new head of NKZN – Tanya is known for her empathy and ceaseless loyalty. She is brave and fearless and will lead the branches in exciting new directions.

As always, I welcome your feedback and comments on this edition: reveshni@caxton.co.za
