‘Joy ride’ crash ends family’s peaceful Saturday afternoon

The driver is believed to have lost control of the powerful car in which he decided to go for a 'joy ride'.

A family in the Mpati area had their Saturday afternoon ‘rudely interrupted’ when a car smashed through the palisade fencing around their Italeni Street home.
The driver, thought to be around 16 and unlicensed, apparently fled the accident scene but was soon traced to a house some blocks away.

The family said they struggled to get assistance from the SAPS, but managed to seek help through a WhatsApp security group who, in turn, alerted the authorities.

The affected family said arrangements had been made for the youth’s parents to pay for the damage.
