Health Department clarifies video of clinic and confirms corrective action

The Department confirmed that clinical services at the Welkom Clinic remain operational.

The Free State Department of Health acknowledged concerns raised in a video circulating on social media about the upkeep of the Welkom Clinic.
The Department responded saying it take full responsibility for the lapses observed and apologised to patients, staff, and the community. Urgent action to restore and maintain a clean, safe, and dignified environment was also promised.

The Department says immediate actions implemented include:

•Rapid clean-up and maintenance teams have been deployed to clear overgrown vegetation and remove accumulated refuse.
•A strengthened cleaning and grounds‑upkeep schedule has been instituted to prevent recurrence.

Service continuity

The Department also confirmed that clinical services at the Welkom Clinic remain operational. and said that regular progress updates will be given as part of a focused Facility Improvement Plan.
