It’s all systems go for June voter registration weekend
Remember you will need a valid South African ID Document or Smart ID to vote.
The first of two voter registration weekends for the upcoming Local Government Elections is on June 20-21. A second voter registration weekend will then follow on August 1-2.
The election date is yet to be announced.
How to register online
Go to registertovote.elections.org.za
- Enter your name and surname and contact details
- Capture your address details
- Upload a photo or file of your valid SA ID – green ID book, smart ID, or temporary ID, and make sure the barcode is clearly visible.
- Insert the One Time Pin (OTP) sent to you
- You will then receive a notification that you are registered.
How to check if you are registered?
- Go to the IEC website www.elections.org.za and follow the link,
- or SMS your ID number to 32810,
- or Make a toll-free phone call from a landline to the call centre (0800 11 8000) – only available during election periods,
- or Use the IEC application on your smartphone,
- or Go to a voting station during the Voter Registration weekend.
- You may also visit your local IEC office in the Forum building next to the municipal offices from Monday to Friday during office hours.
What to bring along when going to voting stations during Registration Weekend?
Bring your valid SA ID – green ID book, smart ID card, or valid temporary ID. Voting stations will be open from 08:00-17:00 during registration weekend.
There are five voting stations in Edenville, nine in Vredefort, 11 in Koppies, and 28 in Parys, Tumahole, and Schonkenville, totalling 53 voting stations in the Ngwathe Local Municipality.
Heilbron will form part of the Metsimaholo Municipality after the Local Government Election.
Heilbron residents, therefore, can enquire about voting stations at the Metsimaholo IEC office.
The implication of Heilbron forming part of Metsimaholo is that the number of wards in Ngwathe has changed from 19 to 14. It has been confirmed that there will be some ward arrangement changes for voting stations, but voters’ registration status will not be affected by these changes.
Changes in voting stations will be communicated as soon as the IEC releases the updated list of voting stations.
