Facts to take note of

When you cast your ballot, there is no way for your vote to be linked back to you. Here’s why:

• Your ballot does not contain your personal details.

• You mark your ballot in the privacy of a voting booth.

• Once your ballot is placed in the ballot box, it is mixed with other ballots and cannot be traced back to you.
• Your employer, family, friends, political parties or anyone else cannot find out who you voted for.

The secrecy of the ballot allows you to make your choice freely, without pressure, intimidation or fear. 

Does the IEC know who you vote for?

The IEC cannot know, track or record which candidate or party you voted for.

When you vote, the IEC verifies that you are a registered voter using your ID but your ballot is not linked back to you. What happens behind the voting booth stays between you and your ballot.
