Urgent warning: Take note of road closure due to chemical spillage
Road users are advised to follow instructions from law enforcement officials that are on the scene.
A collision between two trucks on the N1 between Winburg and Ventersburg earlier this morning at 06:30, (Wednesday September 30), resulted in chemical spillage.
Sipho Towa, chairperson of Road Incident Management Systems (RIMS) in the Free State advised the public to remain at least 300m away from the spillage at all times.
Road users are also advised to follow instructions of diversion as law enforcement officials are on the scene and traffic will be diverted away from the N1 from Kroonstand and at Winburg.
The diversion route to follow is the R708 to Theunissen.
Towa also confirmed that one of the driver’s of the two trucks involved in the accident was fatally wounded on the scene, while the other driver suffered minor injuries.
