A security guard was held at gunpoint during a robbery at Carletonville’s Total Sports on 22 April.
An unknown suspect entered the shop at around 17:00 on that Wednesday. With his firearm pointed at the security guard, he ordered everyone to move to the storeroom at the back of the shop.
Another suspect entered the store and tied the manager, a customer, and staff members up with cables. One the suspects said they did not want anything from the victims, and proceeded to search the drawers. The suspects fled the scene with a number of cell phones and items of clothing. A case of business robbery has been opened and investigations are still in process.
In another armed robbery, five suspects held up a spaza shop in Khutsong’s Ext. 5 on 30 April. One suspect pointed a firearm at the owner of the shop, Mr Nesri Abdu, and the customers, demanding money. A suspect ransacked the counter as the others held the customers down on the floor. The suspects fled with an undisclosed amount of cash and were later arrested. In another incident, Slabbert Motors in Station Street in Carletonville was robbed on Monday. The incident occurred just after 08:00.
Apparently two unknown men entered and later fled with money. Two employees were hit with a firearm during the course of the robbery.
