The Commission for the Promotion and Protection of Cultural, Religious and Linguistic Communities had previously welcomed the decision pronounced on the 20 March 2017 by the Limpopo High Court Judge which ordered Limpopo Pastor Lethebo Rabalago popularly known as “Prophet of Doom” to stop using the insecticide on his congregants.
According to Mpiyakhe Mkholo, the CRL Rights Commission spokesperson, though Pastor Rabalago of the Mount Zion General Assembly has not yet been found guilty, the CRL Rights is looking forward to the decision to be announced by the Naboomspruit court on 31 January 2018 which will determine whether he is guilty or not.
‘The decision to be announced by the court will probably vindicate what the CRL Rights Commission has always been saying that indeed, there are a number of religious leaders who are violating the dignity of people and in the process abusing their belief systems. We have also repeatedly said that there aren’t enough laws unless and until the victims stand up against these abuses,’ he said.
The Chairperson of the CRL Rights Commission, Mrs Thoko Mkhwanazi Xaluva expressed hope that the judgement will be appropriate enough and thereby send a clear and strong warning to all those Pastors or Prophets who take advantage of the poor, vulnerable and desperate people to stop their acts. The CRLRC wishes to applaud the victims who have stood up for their rights to dignity and safety.
