Hitchhiker robs driver

According to the communication officer of the police in Carletonville, WO Peter Masooa, the driver  stopped in front of the adult shop in Van Zyl Smit Street on 8 October at around 09:30.

When he got back from buying groceries at Spar, a man approached him and acted as if he knew the victim. The suspect looked vaguely familiar and seemed very friendly. He opened the passenger door, climbed in and asked where the victim was going.

When he said he was on his way to work, the man asked the driver to drop him at a business on the corner of Onyx and Dolomite streets. He picked up some boxes and asked the driver to drop him off at Shoprite in Onyx Drive. On the way, the suspect’s phone rang and he answered.

He then asked the driver to stop behind the West View flats. When they got there, he pulled out a firearm and robbed the driver of his belongings before running away.
