Road accident claimed eight lives – baby only survivor

A three-year-old baby is the only survivor of a road accident that claimed the lives of eight people last night (Saturday, 1 February). The accident happened between Coligny and Klerksdorp.

The MEC for the Department of Community Safety and Transport  Management, Sello Lehari, says two vehicles collided head-on approximately 15 kilometers outside Coligny. In one of the vehicles, two women and four men died instantly. With the help of other motorists, the three-year-old survived.

The occupants of the other vehicle, a man and a woman and their eight-year-old child, were taken to Tshepong Hospital in Klerksdorp where they also passed away.

“This is very sad news as we are preparing to release the statistics that show a decrease in fatalities of road accidents”, says Lehari who earnestly appeal to road users to be extra careful and drive responsibly.
