PARYS IN ACTION TO CONTINUE ITS CLEAN-UP CAMPAIGN IN THE NEW YEAR

Over the past few weeks Parys in Action – a registered NPO – has been helping to clean up Parys by employing half a dozen men on a Thursday to go round the town and remove any rubbish they come across.  On average they have filled over 80 refuse bags daily and their driver takes it all to the Dover Road dump to dispose of it legally.

One of the organisers, June Britten, has now managed to secure a donation of 2000 refuse bags from a Wynberg, Johannesburg company which will mean that, after the seasonal holidays the team will be able to continue its work well into the New Year.  She said that the clean-up operation is dependent on such donations as the men receive R10.00 for every bag filled as well as a packed lunch after they have completed their work.

“Any donations, big or small, would be welcome so that we can continue to keep Parys looking smart for both the residents and the tourists” she said.  June is particularly appealing for funds to keep the project alive and to help people with employment on a regular weekly basis.  Apart from that any spare stiff brooms, spades or steel rakes that anyone can donate for us to keep on hand,  will also be very helpful.

Her appeal is for everyone to support this initiative which is important for the well-being of the town which relies heavily on tourism for income support.  “Lets not see the town degenerate because of a lack of public support.  We do not want to see businesses closing their doors due to a reduction of tourists because the town looks dirty.  However, we do not do this to relieve the Municipality of its responsibilities but as concerned citizens willing to lend a hand”

June can be contacted on 073 116 9085 to offer your assistance ether  in the form of cash or equipment or even personal help on the day.
