Young chess player receives top female award

Kalinka started playing chess when she was 3 years old

Seven-year-old chess player Kalinka Yorke-Hart from Parys received the award for Best Female Player in her division after competing in the Fonteine Open tournament.

Kalinka was the youngest player in the under-10 section. She started the tournament in 10th place out of 17 participants and won three of her five games.

This earned her an impressive fifth-place finish in her division, says her proud coach Danny Botes.

Kalinka started playing chess when she was 3 years old and is one of the standout young talents at local chess night gatherings hosted in Parys.
