‘Medals a symbol of hope’
The medal parade was held during Women's Month celebrating women in the SAPS in the Free State for their commitment and loyalty.
The South African Police Service in the Free State honoured dedicated women in uniform on Thursday during a special Medal Parade at the Fezile Dabi Stadium in Tumahole.
In her keynote address, Dr Polly Boshielo, Deputy Minister of Police, expressed her pride, noting that recognition, especially for long service, is an achievement worth celebrating. “These medals are a symbol of hope that we still have loyal and committed members within the service,” Boshielo said.
The MEC for Community Safety, Roads and Transport, Jabu Mbalula, applauded the event, stating that he cannot think of a better way to conclude Women’s Month than by honouring these members. During the ceremony, Brigadier Bolele Teleki, Provincial Head of Finance in the Free State, received her 30-year service medal, while 67 members received 20-year medals, and 46 members received 10-year medals.
Brigadier Teleki started at the then Bophuthatswana police as a junior constable at the young age of 19, working her way up over the past 36 years.

“During my training in later years in the finance department, we were taught that 1c can put you in jail,” Teleki recalls. She kept this principle close to her heart, serving with pride, loyalty, and dedication over many years.
The pride in every woman standing on the parade ground was echoed in the words of the Provincial Commissioner of Police, Lieutenant General Baile Motswenyane, stating that these medals are a testimony to resilience, loyalty, and commitment.
