Eskom granted Metsimaholo Local Municipality permission to self-loadshed in Sasolburg to protect its critical points of supply which include
a water pump and a hospital. Following a period of close monitoring and data analysis, it became clear to Eskom that Metsimaholo was not reducing the load in accordance with the NRS 048-9:2019.
Eskoms in a statement this week said the entity has engaged with the Municipality numerous times on its failure to comply by implementing loadshedding as agreed, but all efforts have proved unsuccessful.
Failure to implement load shedding affects the integrity and stability of the grid, which may lead to higher stages of load shedding, Eskom said.
In addition to the engagements between Eskom and Metsimaholo Local Municipality, Eskom served the Municipality with three notices of intention,
Eskom therefore gave the Metsimaholo Local Municipality a 14 days’ notice to comply. Failure will result in Eskom taking over the implementation of loadshedding in Sasolburg from 29 December 2023.
Eskom advised customers to look up their loadshedding schedules on the Eskom website by typing in their area name.
