‘We are committed to improving the water situation’ says Ngwathe

Ngwathe's acting municipal manager, Dr F. P. Mothamaha, assured the community that he was working with a team committed to improving the water situation in Ngwathe and would continue engaging with affected stakeholders.

Following a meeting with AfriForum and representatives of civil society formations on Friday, 24 May, to discuss the water situation in Parys, Dr Mothamaha expressed his appreciation for the engagement with all stakeholders for a common understanding of current water distribution challenges in the area.

He also noted a memorandum to the municipality on Thursday, 23 May.
Representatives of the Department of Water and Sanitation and the team currently implementing the refurbishment of the Parys water treatment plant were among the participants at the meeting.

In a statement, Ngwathe’s communication unit listed primary resolutions as constant engagement, cooperation on information sharing, refraining from distributing unauthorised, misleading and provocative information, improving water compliance, consistent water updates, beefing up announcements the executive mayor’s office had already made, and involving stakeholders in finding amicable solutions.

The meeting noted that the Parys purification plant was not functioning optimally due to the refurbishment underway.
