A truck carrying hazardous materials overturned on the N1 Highway on the night of April 8.

To ensure public safety, specialists have been deployed to the incident scene tonight focusing on the safe removal of the truck, and managing the highly flammable substances involved, the Free State Departments of Community Safety, Roads and Transport, and Free State Department of Health confirmed

Safety Measures:

• Continuous air quality monitoring will be implemented.
• The N1 highway will be temporarily closed at the N5/N1 bridge in Winburg to facilitate the removal operation.
• Traffic will be redirected via Theunissen and Kroonstad using R730 and R708 to minimize disruptions.

Road Closures and Diversions:

• N1 closure at the N5/N1 bridge in Winburg.
• Traffic diversion routes: Theunissen to Kroonstad via R730 and Kroonstad back to Theunissen via R730 and R708.
