Police confiscate Mandrax, Methamphetamine in Tumahole
This is the second successful drug related operation held in Schonkenville and Tumahole the past three week.
Police recovered 21 mandrax tablets, commonly known as “5-star”, eight small ziplock bags containing crystal methamphetamine, two medium ziplock bags containing crystal methamphetamine, and two live rounds of ammunition, after police searched a residence in Winnie Section, Tumahole, on Thursday April 23.
According to police spokersperson Sergeant Josephine Rani, a 39-year old man from Tumahole has been arrested and will appear before the Parys Magistrate Court for possession of drugs and the unlawful possession of ammunition.
Rani said members of the Sasolburg Public Order Policing (POP) Unit conducted the operation during which the arrest was made, after information was received regarding the residence allegedly being used for sale and distribution of drugs.
This week’s arrest follows shortly after a 65-year old man was arrested after a recent drug bust in Schonkenville during which 299 packets of nyaope, 104 packets of crystal methamphetamine, approximately 5kg of unpacked dagga, and two half Mandrax tablets, to the estimated street value of approximately R10 000 were confiscated.

In addition, several electric tools, valued at approximately R12 000 were then recovered. These items are suspected to have been stolen and exchanged for drugs, Rani earlier said.
The Schonkenville drug bust led to the arrest of the 65-year old who was released on warning by the Parys Magistrate Court. He will appear before court again on May 27.
