Will you accommodate Jesus Christ today?

When Joseph and Mary arrived in Bethlehem they could not find a place to rest. In Luke 2:7 we read: “There was no room for them to stay in the inn.” As a result, Jesus was born in a stable and laid in a manger. While Jesus was still a baby, His very life was in danger as the enemy wanted to destroy Him. In fact, king Herod was so desperate to get rid of Jesus that “He gave orders to kill all the boys in Bethlehem and its neighbourhood who were two years old and younger,” (Matthew 2:16)
When Jesus started to minister, He often found himself without a place to rest. Jesus himself said in Luke 9:58 “Foxes have holes, and birds have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lie down and rest.” In Gadara, where Jesus delivered the oppressed, He was “begged to leave their territory.” (Matthew 8:34)
Jesus went to Jerusalem. Here He was rejected by his own people. Jesus said: “How many times I wanted to put my arms around all your people, just as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you would not let me!” (Luke 13:34). In John 1:11 we read: “He came to his own country, but his own people did not receive him.”
When Jesus stood in front of Pilate, Pilate “appealed to the crowd again. But they shouted back, “Crucify him! Crucify him!” (Luke 23:20-21) Then we see Him, Jesus, stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted. (Isaiah 53:4 – King James)
Even in spite of this, the true character, the essence of who Jesus is was shown to us when Jesus, dying in pain and agony yet full of love and compassion said “Forgive them, Father! They don’t know what they are doing.” (Luke 23:34)
Through the ages, and even today, the Lord has been rejected. While He is looking for permanent residence, we often offer Him a work-permit, only allowing Him into our lives for a brief moment to do what we want from Him.
Then, some still dare to accuse God of being absent, of not caring, not providing or not healing. In fact, they often accuse God of the worst things imaginable when things do not go the way they want.
Will you make room for Jesus today? Remember that God works best from the inside outwards. If He is not permitted inside of us how then can we expect Him to change the situations around us? The question remains: Will you make room for Jesus today?
