Bakwena bolsters N1/N4 safety measures ahead of Easter holiday surge

As the school and Easter holiday season approaches, Bakwena Platinum Corridor Concessionaire (Pty) Ltd, (Bakwena) has several measures in place to ensure a smoother journey for motorists traveling the N1 and N4 routes through Gauteng, Limpopo, and North West provinces.

On Friday, March 27 , six Renault Captur vehicles—boasting a 4-star Euro NCAP safety rating—will be handed over to Bakwena and relevant law enforcement authorities. These additional vehicles will be deployed to bolster route surveillance, crash assistance, and road user support during the high-traffic period.

Key Operational Highlights for the Easter holiday

  • Suspension of Roadworks: To maximize traffic flow, all crucial roadworks will be suspended during the holiday period.
  • Enhanced Monitoring: Increased presence of law enforcement and Bakwena patrol vehicles to promote driver vigilance.
  • Fatigue Management: Motorists are urged to stop and rest every two hours or 200km.

Peak Travel Times and congestion warning

Plan your departures outside the following expected peak periods to avoid heavy congestion:

  • Thursday, April 2: 12:00 – 21:00
  • Friday, April 3: 06:00 – 15:00
  • Monday, April 6: 12:00 – 21:00

Streamlined Toll Payments

To ensure a faster transit through plazas, Bakwena accepts Debit/Credit cards (please ensure these cards are chip enabled and have sufficient funds), cash, and SANRAL Tags. The most efficient method of payment remains the SANRAL tag for seamless payment and travel.

Tag users are strongly encouraged to top up their accounts before embarking on their journey.
